Crunchyroll is the world's largest anime streaming platform — a brand with an intensely devoted global fanbase and a visual identity as specific as any in entertainment. Their India office at Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City had to live up to that identity. Not by turning the office into a fan experience, but by finding the right register: a workspace that acknowledged and celebrated the brand without becoming a theme park.
The ask was a delicate one. Too much, and it tips into novelty. Too little, and you've missed the point entirely. Across the full 20,000 sq.ft build-out, the language stayed consistent.
Where culture meets creativity, and work meets imagination.
Japanese culture and aesthetics form the foundation — not in the way of cherry blossoms and red gates, but in the deeper principles of Japanese design: restraint, clarity, the idea that beauty comes from removing what isn't necessary.
Within that foundation, the nods to anime are deliberate and specific. References to Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and Attack on Titan are present — in graphics, accents, and spatial gestures — but handled with editorial judgment. They reward people who notice them. They don't demand attention from people who don't.
Planning
The plan centres on collaborative work zones, with focused work and meeting spaces arranged at the perimeter. Glass partitions maintain visual connectivity throughout — so the office reads as one environment, not a series of enclosed rooms. Circulation is clear and efficient.
Design Language
Japanese-inspired minimalism provides the visual framework: clean lines, controlled colour use, surfaces that read as intentional. The anime references are the exception to the restraint, not the rule — which makes them land harder when they appear. The contrast between the minimal backdrop and the specific, culturally-loaded accents is what gives the space its character.
Execution
Height-adjustable workstations throughout for flexibility. Integrated AV systems in all cabins — not added later, but designed in. Flexible lighting calibrated for the full range of uses the space sees: focused work, creative review, client presentations. The build-out extends the same language seamlessly across the full floor plate without any visual seams.
A workspace that earns its brand authenticity by not trying too hard. Creative and composed. Built for collaboration and focus in equal measure. Crunchyroll's global leadership now references the Hyderabad office internally as a benchmark for their Asia-Pacific workspace standards.
